Pui Pui Molcar

It’s cute and soothing. Seeing the adorable antics of the part animal, part car critters is a cozy way to relax while waiting for the evening to come. That’s what I did during Ramadan in the year it came out anyway. And at least for those in Southeast Asia, it’s free to watch legally on YouTube too (Halimun Muhammad – The Indonesian Anime Times)
Skip and Loafer

Skip and Loafer tell a story about Mitsumi Iwakura’s school life in the bustling city of Tokyo, which made her leave her countryside town, to pursue her dream. Upon watching this anime for the first time, it always lifts my mood because of how heartwarming and wholesome it is. Seeing how Mitsumi reacts to what’s happening to her and around her, wholeheartedly facing all kinds of challenges to pursue her dreams, having all kinds of new encounters while keeping in touch with the people from her past encounters. Skip and Loafer might be the perfect fit for your watchlist in the holy month of Ramadan as this month encourages people to be kind and share kindness. (Vina Nurziani – The Indonesian Anime Times)
To Your Eternity

Ramadan will last for almost a month, so I’d like to recommend an anime that you can get invested in. To Your Eternity is my suggestion, with two seasons and over 40 episodes already available. This anime offers a fresh take on the idea of a protagonist who starts as a nobody until they are given a name, just like Fushi. As the viewer, you get to follow Fushi’s journey. The viewer will witness Fushi’s growth from a rock to a dog to a human. Throughout this growth, Fushi will learn how to empathize with its surroundings. The main focus of the story is how Fushi interacts with and retains memories of his experiences throughout his infinite life, as he cannot truly die. Be ready for moments of sadness where Fushi may struggle, as well as moments of joy where the world is at peace. When you watch the early episodes, it feels like a new fresh idea. However, as the show progresses, you may start to notice some repetition in the plot, such as the meaning of humanity. Go try to watch it if you’re looking for a new anime, this anime would bring a unique perspective for you during Ramadan especially since it always questions what makes us human. At the time of this writing, you can still watch this anime on the Ani-One Asia YouTube channel. (Cakra Bhirawa – The Indonesian Anime Times)
Do It Yourself!!

During Ramadan, there is an activity that people like to do in Indonesia called ‘Ngabuburit’. ‘Ngabuburit’ is a word in Sundanese that basically just means activities we do to fill time as we wait for Iftar. While the act of watching anime itself counts as ‘Ngabuburit’, I think watching Do It Yourself!! you’d get inspired to do something more productive during that time: making handicrafts!
Ranging from things like making their own bookshelf and bench, all the way up to something as difficult as making a treehouse, there are a lot of handicraft projects that Yua and her friends do in this anime that you can try and do yourself (pun intended) while waiting for Iftar! The Heike Story (Heike Monogatari)

The experience of watching The Heike Story is very spiritual. There are many things that this anime talks about, but the one that I want to bring out is the idea of death. The anime uses real historical events as an inspiration to explore the idea of death and how we handle it. After all, Taira’s clan will be defeated at the end of the story. A lot of their clan member is dead at the end of the war. The question is, how the characters in this anime will respond to the idea that death is inevitable? Seeing how Taira’s clan faces their inevitable downfall is fascinating. We can see how each character in this anime has their own perspective of “death”. It’s sad, but also uplifting at the same time. (Dany Muhammad – The Indonesian Anime Times)
