On 29 May 2025, CBI Pictures announced on their social media that Kaiju No.8: Mission Recon will be screened in Indonesia. CGV Cinemas Indonesia has also confirmed that the film will be shown in their theatres, with its premiere scheduled for 20 June 2025.
Kaiju No. 8: Mission Recon is a compilation film based on Naoya Matsumoto’s manga. The film comprises 12 episodes from the first season of Kaiju No. 8, along with a brand-new episode titled “Hoshina’s Day Off.“ This compilation film serves as a prequel to the anime’s second season, which is set to premiere in July 2025.
The story of Kaiju No. 8 takes place in Japan, where deadly monsters known as kaiju repeatedly attack the country. To combat them, the government established a special military force dedicated to kaiju extermination. One of the individuals aspiring to join this force is Kafka Hibino, who has repeatedly failed the entrance exams. Despite the setbacks, he never gives up. However, after being attacked by a kaiju, Kafka gains the ability to transform into one himself. Can he still join the Kaiju Extermination Forces under this condition? And if he succeeds, can he keep his true identity a secret from the other soldiers?
The manga is available digitally on MangaPlus for international audiences, with new chapters released every Thursday at 2200 West Indonesian Time. In Indonesia, m&c! published the tankoubon (collected volume) version since 2 February 2022.
