Cocona, a reserved honor student, encountered a mysterious girl named Papika, who took her on adventure in a world called “Pure Illusion” in search of objects called “Shards of Mimi” that is said to be able to grant wishes.
Like Alice who followed the white rabbit into the hole to an unbelievable world, so did Cocona drawn by Papika to step through the hole into a mysterious amazing world. Although it is Oshiyama’s debut in directing a whole TV series, he has gained recognition as episode director in shows such as Space Dandy. Here, what Oshiyama and crew put to the forefront in the episode is playing with the unreal nature of animation to construct a fairy tale-like world, through dynamic, energetic and playful animation, along with fantastic, mystifying landscapes from Studio Pablo. Flip Flappers demonstrate how the “journey to another world” scenario can serve a curious exploration into the unexpected unknown. The girls have made their step into the world. What more will they encounter next? (Halimun Muhammad – GM The Indonesian Anime Times)

Because of his wife’s health issue, Kohei Araki, an editor in publisher Genbu Shobo’s dictionary department, has to retire, But before that, he promises to find his successor, a brilliant young man who will continue Araki’s work creating a new dictionary called “The Great Passage”. Unfortunately, finding such person is not easy task. One day, another editor named Masashi Nishioka introduces him with Mitsuya Majime, a man from sales department. Araki thinks Majime is the right person to continue this project. Unfortunately, his social skill is really poor, often leads him in bad situation while doing his work. Can Majime work with the other editors to finish “The Great Passage”?
Adapted from a novel by Shion Miura, this is probably the most unusual theme to be adapted into anime medium: Dictionary. Will it turn out good? At least from the first episode, the viewers will realize that compiling dictionary is not an easy task. Linguistic skill, patience, and attention of detail are really needed. Moreover, Japanese language is one of the hardest language to master. There are some expositions about dictionary too, like the fact that each dictionary can have different content and meaning based on the editor’s direction when dictionary is created (Some dictionaries are made with more flexible word, while the others are stricter). Aside that, story about compiling a dictionary is suitable with main character’s problem. As main character, Majime is described as socially inept and unable to express himself well. It really become hindrances for him, especially in his job as salesman. By moving to dictionary department and focusing on compiling words in dictionary, Majime can learn to convey the words in his heart, and express himself better. Judging by the reputation of the original work and the live action adaptation (which win the best picture in Japanese Academy Prize 2013), The great Passage is recommended for you who looking for a show that centered in adult main character with uncommon theme. “What the f*** is this?!”,”Who draw those chins? They’re gonna stab my eyes”, Widih, a e s t h e t i c bang”. Well, many viewer probably confuse after watching the first episode, but in truth, there is no need to take this anime seriously. This is a short 3-minutes anime (2 minutes to be precise, since one minute is used for opening and ending song) that adapted from a game which satirize BL (Boys Love) genre. So don’t be surprised if this show still follow the same old BL formula, but with weird look and stupid artwork, make the viewers feel disturbed. Just sit back, relax, and enjoy the show. Kae Serinuma is an overweight, unattractive fujoshi who like to pair every handsome boys in her class. One day, his favorite character suddenly passed away, made her depressed and shut herself in her room without eating. A weeks later, her mother and brother forced her to leave her room, but later surprised when they saw Serinuma transform into an attractive beautiful girl. It made her become the center of attention in her class, especially 4 handsome guys who openly asked her to date.
Premise about a unattractive girl who turned in a beautiful woman simply is not really unusual these days. But in this show, at least that premise executed really well, especially in comedic moment. The comedic moment itself mostly came from Serinuma when she acted like a “heavyweight” fujoshi. Perfectly timed sound effect and over exaggerated expressions of the character also suit the comedic moment well. While we can say this show is targeted for female audience, that does not mean male audience cannot find this anime amusing. This anime is recommended for them who looking for a comedy anime that centered around a fujoshi and their stereotype. (Dany Muhammad – The Indonesian Anime Times)
