Written by Soul Eater creator, Atsushi Ookubo, the original Fire Force manga is set in 1988 Tokyo, during the Solar Era. During this time, the phenomenon of spontaneous human combustion, in which humans change into living things known as Infernals, is combated by a special firefighting force.
The story centres on Shinra Kusakabe, a young man known as the “Devil’s Footprints” because he can ignite his feet whenever he wants. He is a member of Special Fire Force Company 8, a team of firefighters whose job it is to put out any Infernals they come across. Shinra sets out to learn the truth about the enigmatic fire phenomenon that killed his family twelve years ago because he is worried about the origins of the Infernals. Will Shinra learn the truth about this horrifying phenomenon?
First published on 23 September 2015 in Kodansha’s Weekly Shounen Magazine, the anime adaptation has spawned into a three-season series, with the first season airing from July to December 2019. A second season from July to December 2020, with the third and final season split in two parts, with the first part aired from April to June 2025, and the second part airing in January 2026.
