On Wednesday (20/5), the Philippine sister group of AKB48, MNL48, officially announced its disbandment through a statement released by the management company, P.O.S Inc., on the MNL48 website.

Earlier this year, the group announced a major transition involving changes to the name of the operating company. However, P.O.S Inc. ultimately decided to disband MNL48 due to the increasingly difficult conditions in the entertainment industry and the group’s internal stability.

P.O.S Inc. also apologised to MNLoves, the official fanbase of MNL48, for the sudden announcement and expressed regret for being unable to fulfil expectations for the group’s new chapter under the company’s management.

As a farewell to their fans, the group released the music video for Pag-ibig Fortune Cookie 2026 on their official YouTube channel on the same day as the announcement. The single now serves as the final release in MNL48’s history. The song itself is a remake of the group’s second single, originally released in 2018.

MNL48 was a Filipino idol girl group based in Manila. Formed in 2018, They are the fourth international sister group of AKB48. With the MNL48 disbanded, AKB48 currently have six overseas sister groups. including Indonesia’s JKT48, Thailand’s BNK48 and CGM48, and Malaysia’s KLP48.
