Just Okay-ish Song

Now to the theme song part, which is sadly just an okay song that you may forget after a while. It isn’t bad, but it also isn’t a song that you would remember over a period of time.
The opening was sung by none other than Puffy AKA Puffy AmiYumi. When writing this, I was a bit surprised that they are still active, cause to me, I only knew them during my old nostalgic Cartoon Network era of Teen Titans. The opening is titled Collage. I have mixed feelings about this opening. It wasn’t the taste that I was looking for. For me, the rhythm doesn’t feel exciting or interesting. It feels bland. I couldn’t even feel whether this song wants to convey the feeling of the character or even the story as a whole. It just feels like an okay song that you might forget after a few seasons.
The ending music was a bit better, but again, it doesn’t portray the feeling of the anime as a whole. The ending song is titled Shunkan Saidai Fuusoku sung by halca. Even if I also love halca, this song feels like a miss for me, it got halca vibe, especially her energetic and upbeat vibe to be better. Sadly, the ending is just an ending. You might even forget after a while. Even if it wants to convey the feeling of never giving up, with the character development & story that we have, it just failed to hit the spot.
Conclusion

I really want to like The Stories of Girls Who Couldn’t Be Magicians. I’ve seen worse anime. It’s just that I was expecting this anime to be able to be at least give me a similar feeling to what Little Witch Academia is all about, especially with its premise. I’m expecting the main character to have her own personality and develop to become someone who can be looked or trusted (like what Akko is). Yes, the MC managed to get that, but it doesn’t feel earned. It feels like it just happened for the sake of story progression.
Yet even if the story was bland, the final episode was actually good and can be explored further. They teased an even greater mystery. At the same time, the anime itself didn’t even tell the background story of the school, nor even the staff. A huge portion of the story has not yet been explored, and here they just teased something out of anything. I honestly think they shouldn’t start with the “7 school mysteries” concept and try to just start with their own original problem.
But then, would I recommend this anime to anyone? Unfortunately, no. It’s really hard to convince someone to even watch this anime. I don’t find the story or character development interesting. I don’t even recommend watching it for the sake of waifu. The story is just bland, and the conflicts are very predictable.
Pros
- Striking & unique visual.
- Okay-ish OP & ED song.
Cons
- Good premise, but failed to execute it properly like Little Witch Academia.
- A story that felt too rushed within a span of 12 episodes.
- Too many characters, and never did it never managed to deepen or develop the main character.
