On 11 August 2025, the Haruhi Suzumiya franchise released the music video (MV) for its latest song, Colorful Starting Line. The MV is the third and final instalment in a trilogy of songs produced to promote Haruhi Suzumiya’s new novel. The previous two music video, Invincible(ish) Happiness! and Chasing Destiny, were released earlier on 28 July and 4 August 2025, respectively.

The music project was originally started from a crowdfunding campaign launched in November last year to celebrate the release of the latest novel, The Theatre of Haruhi Suzumiya, which was published on 29 November 2024. The campaign’s initial target of 10 million yen was reached on the first day, ultimately raising more than 86 million yen. The crowdfunding was not only used to produce the songs but also to create full music videos featuring 3D models of Haruhi, Mikuru, and Nagato, three characters from the original series.

The first two songs were composed by the original composer of Haruhi Suzumiya anime series Satoru Kosaki. The final song, Colorful Starting Line, was composed by Tsubasa Ito, who is credited as the composer in various anime series including Akame ga Kill!, Princess Connect! Re:Dive, and Welcome to the Ballroom. The original voice cast from the Haruhi Suzumiya series also returned to perform the vocals for these new songs.

Written by Nagaru Tanigawa and illustrated by Noizi Ito, the Haruhi Suzumiya series follows the everyday life of high school girl Haruhi Suzumiya, as narrated by her classmate Kyon. Kyon often finds himself reluctantly dragged into Haruhi’s eccentric and illogical schemes, which become increasingly bizarre when her actions begin to draw the attention of aliens, espers, and time travellers. The newest novel, The Theatre of Haruhi Suzumiya, compiles two previously published short stories from The Sneaker magazine along with an entirely new continuation of the series.
