Indonesian video game developer Cliffbite Game, in partnership with publisher indie.io, has released the demo of their upcoming title Once Upon a Kingdom. The demo became available on Steam on 1 August 2025, while the release date for the full game has yet to be announced.
Once Upon a Kingdom is a card-based city builder that combines elements of strategy, action, and tower defence. Players are tasked with rebuilding lost civilisations inspired by ancient legends and myths.
The game also features long-term deck progression, allowing players to upgrade cards and refine strategies over time. Campaigns are inspired by mythological and historical narratives, ranging from Egyptian pyramids to stories of the Great Flood and even secret settlements on the Moon.
The game was initially titled Kickoff Land and developed in 2024 for the TSA GameFest Game Jam, a game jam held by Digital Talent Scholarship – Talent Scouting Academy of the Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Information (Now the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs) in collaboration with Agate. The game later developed further and was rebranded as Once Upon a Kingdom. In July 2025, the developer announced that the game would be published by Indie.io.
