On Wednesday (22/4), Indonesian indie game developer Stochastic Walk announced the release of the Match Morphosis public demo on Steam. While the exact release date has not been announced yet, Stochastic Walk is currently targeting a full launch window in Q4 2026.
Positioned as a hybrid between match-3 puzzles and roguelike strategy, Match Morphosis combines familiar mechanics with deeper tactical gameplay. The developer describes it as “Match-3 meets roguelike,” drawing inspiration from titles like Candy Crush Saga and Slay the Spire, but with a stronger emphasis on strategic planning rather than speed.
Unlike traditional match-3 games, the gameplay removes time pressure entirely. Players are encouraged to carefully analyse each board, plan combinations, and execute powerful chain reactions. Every move carries weight, with success depending on decision-making rather than reflexes.
The game also features multiple character archetypes, each offering distinct playstyles. Players can experiment with over 50 tile types, 75 artefacts, and more than 30 perks, allowing for a wide range of synergistic builds. Rather than relying on single powerful upgrades, Match Morphosis focuses on how different elements interact to create effective strategies.
Stochastic Walk is a solo indie developer based in Salatiga, East Java. According to their press release, Stochastic Walk is a developer with more than 10 years of experience working as a game developer for other studios. Match Morphosis is their personal project, which they have already been developing since February 2025 by dedicating two hours of their daily life while maintaining their day job.
