On 16 to 17 May 2025, the Comic Frontier (Comifuro) 22 event at ICE BSD, Tangerang, introduces a variety of new things. Among them is what’s inside the Live2D Jakarta Chapter community booth, which announced it would attend the event on 2 April. They introduce the visitor to an “interactive showcase”. They created an interactive product using Live2D and showcased it to the booth visitors using a kiosk.

The Live2D Jakarta Chapter is a community that focuses on the Live2D product and its derivatives. The community focuses exclusively on the Greater Jakarta Region, including Jakarta. Established in 2026 by pixelvertice, they first debuted on Comifuro 22 by showcasing some of their work. Interestingly, they are also including the first-ever interactive showcase feature in Indonesia.

This “interactable showcase” is something that is rarely seen in comic market events. It immediately sparks curiosity and excitement among visitors. They tried to interact with the product, seeing what Live2D would be like if it were introduced in real life. This type of showcase could be the first of its kind in Indonesia.

The KAORI team had the valuable opportunity to chat directly with Aditya, one of the Live2D Jakarta Chapter Community staff members and organiser of Comifuro 22. Their booth was vacant when we visited, allowing us to photograph it and interview the personnel who manage it.

Curious about the interview? Here’s our interview with KAORI and Aditya from Live2D Jakarta Chapter Community.

First, can you introduce yourself?

Okay, my name is Aditya. I am the representative of the Live2D Jakarta Chapter community for the Comifuro 22 event.

What made you decide to jump into the VTuber world?

Actually, before I got into VTuber, I was initially interested in the world of Live2D back in 2016. Then, Nijisanji arrived in 2018, through Tsukino Mito with her then-new Live2D. Since then, I’ve been immersed in the VTuber world. This was further proved by Nijisanji’s presence in Indonesia at that time, coupled with the growing number of VTubers relying on Live2D, making Live2D and VTuber interconnected to this day.

What does the Live2D Jakarta Chapter community look like at Comifuro 22?

At Comifuro 22, we introduced an interactive showcase feature that allowed visitors to interact directly with Live2D characters. Our booth also serves as a gathering place for Live2D creators and a networking opportunity to expand connections with both fellow creators and clients.

The Live2D Jakarta Chapter community focuses specifically on the Greater Jakarta area, including Jakarta, as each community has branches focused on their respective regions.

How is Live2D implemented in the entertainment industry?

These days, Live2D is most commonly associated with the VTuber industry. Besides VTubers, it can also be found in gacha games, such as the use of characters whose animated movements rely on Live2D. In the animation industry, this can be found in video games, particularly game trailers.

How does the Live2D system work?

The Live2D system itself consists of layers (illustrations) saved as Photoshop files (in this case, .psd format). For VTubers, the number of layers required varies, from 100 to thousands, each of which is animated by Live2D, as well as handled it by manually.

How enthusiastic are people interested in becoming VTubers and learning Live2D from the perspective of the Jakarta Live2D community?

From our community’s perspective, the enthusiasm of those interested in becoming VTubers and learning Live2D has been present since the first day of Comifuro 22. This was especially evident through visitors’ interest in our interactive showcase, which many people had never seen before. Furthermore, some VTubers also came to our booth, usually requesting that their VTuber models be repaired. Others enthusiastically came to our booth to learn what Live2D is like and how it works.

What are the interesting things about this community? The enthusiasm of those learning? Are there people who aren’t interested in anime and want to learn Live2D?

There are many interesting things about this community, one of the main ones being that it serves as a gathering place for fellow local creators to meet and expand their network. Furthermore, the enthusiasm of those just learning is also impressive because they discover new things they’ve never encountered before. They usually learn on their own. Once the community grows large enough, we will open a community channel on WhatsApp in the future.

Interestingly, for those less interested in anime who are learning Live2D, one reason is that Live2D techniques offer career opportunities they’ve never seen before, thanks to its broad and ever-expanding applications in various entertainment domains, from video games to VTubers.

What are the biggest challenges faced by those first using the Live2D tool?

The biggest challenge faced is in terms of expectations, that using the Live2D tool can immediately produce good results, especially for those who are new to and learning what Live2D is.

What are the goals for the Live2D Jakarta Chapter community after Comifuro 22?

After Comifuro 22, we will hold various online events, including workshops and seminars about Live2D. This aims to provide a platform for those curious about the world of Live2D.

Thank you for the interview, Aditya. We hope the Live2D Jakarta Chapter community can fulfil its dreams of making Live2D even more widely known in the future!
