Anime distributor Ani-One Asia has announced that they have licensed Chainsmoker Cat, MAO, Koala’s Diary, and The Cat and the Dragon. The first episode of these anime will be available next July as part of the summer 2026 anime line-up.
Chainsmoker Cat follows Yaniko, a completely degenerate catgirl living in a modern Japanese apartment building who is profoundly addicted to cigarettes. Despite her sister’s and friends’ desperate attempts to help her quit, pay her rent, or hold down a temporary job, Yaniko’s absolute lack of willpower repeatedly drags her back to the tobacco habit, leading to bizarrely gross and ridiculous misadventures. As she navigates her neighbourhood alongside other eccentric, deeply flawed beastfolk roommates, including an alcoholic, a fighting-game livestreamer, and a secret hard-drug user.
Adapted from a manga by Rumiko Takahashi, MAO tells the story of Nanoka Kiba, a high school student who accidentally slips back through time into Japan’s Taisho era. There, she crosses paths with Mao, a mysterious, centuries-old exorcist doctor wielding a deadly sword who is tracking down a powerful, malevolent cat-demon known as the Byoki. Realising that Nanoka miraculously survived a childhood tragedy because she shares the same demonic curse as Mao, the two team up to investigate bizarre, supernatural killings and cult activities while gradually unravelling the blood-soaked secrets of Mao’s past.
Based on the popular web comic by Yuami, Koala’s Diary focuses on the daily life of a round, fluffy koala. In this series, we follow the ordinary everyday life of this Koala, who lives a simple life and casually interacts with animal neighbours like Crow-san and Hedgehog-san.
The Cat and the Dragon centres on a powerful dragon who, after hatching alone in a cave, is taken in and raised by a family of ordinary, loving forest cats. Growing up believing himself to be part of the feline family, the dragon vows to protect all cats and fiercely punishes human adventurers who hunt them for fur. However, an encounter with a stray cat prompts him to adopt a smaller, cat-like form. Reborn as the legendary Cat-Dragon, he spends his days bridging the gap between humans and felines, acting as a massive, powerful guardian angel to his tiny, adopted feline relatives.
