On Wednesday (24/6), Aniplus Asia announced that they have licensed the upcoming historical anime Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia. The series is scheduled to be broadcast on the same day as its Japanese airing as a part of Aniplus Asia’s Summer 2026 anime line-up.
Adapted from the manga A Witch’s Life in Mongol by Tomato Soup, the story follows Sitara, a young girl sold into slavery in the city of Tus. Initially attempting to escape, she is taken in by a family of scholars who teach her the value of knowledge. However, her life is once again interrupted when the Mongol invasion reaches the city. Her master is killed, and she has to move to Mongolia, where she adopts the name Fatima and begins plotting her revenge.
The series is being produced by Science SARU, with Naoko Yamada (A Silent Voice, The Heike Story) serving as executive director and Spanish animator Abel Gongora directing the project. Additional staff members include Kenichi Yoshida (Gundam Reconguista in G, Eureka Seven) as character designer and chief animation director, Kanichi Kato (Those Snow White Notes, The Eminence in Shadow) handling the series composition, and Koshiro Hino composing the music.
The original manga had ranked first in the 2023 edition of Kono Manga ga Sugoi! for female readers and was nominated for the Manga Taishou awards in both 2023 and 2024. The anime has also gained international recognition. It was selected for the TV Film category at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival 2026.
