Rakugo-themed manga series Akane-banashi is officially adapted into a television anime series. The anime is slated to air in 2026 in Asahi TV’s IMAnimation programming block and will be animated by studio ZEXCS.

Here’s the list of voice actors in the Akane-banashi anime, listed on their website:

  • Anna Nagase as Akane Ousaki
  • Takuya Eguchi as Karashi Nerimaya
  • Rie Takahashi as Hikaru Kouragi

Written by Yuki Suenaga and illustrated by Takamasa Moue, Akane-banashi follows the story of Akane Osaki, a girl who has been mesmerised by her father’s rakugo performances. She often peeks at her father during his rakugo training, and she also spends hours mimicking his rakugo performance. However, his father is suddenly expelled from the rakugo association and stops performing. Akane, determined to know what actually happened to his father, now started to learn under his father’s former teacher and began her journey as a rakugoka herself.

The manga was first serialised in Shueisha’s Weekly Shounen Jump in February 2022. It received fourth place in the Kono Manga ga Sugoi! 2023 rankings’ male readers category, and was nominated for the 16th Manga Taisho award and 47th Kodansha Manga Awards. The manga is currently available in Indonesia via Shueisha’s MANGA Plus app.
