On Tuesday (4/8), film distributor Feat Pictures announced that Yoshitoshi Shinomiya‘s latest animated feature, A New Dawn, is set to be screened in Indonesian cinemas. The film will premiere on 19 August 2026.

Written and directed by Yoshitoshi Shinomiya, A New Dawn tells the story of Keitaro Obinata. For six years, he has been living inside an abandoned firework factory owned by his family. The factory will be demolished soon, but it’s always been a special place for him. Before the demolition, Keitaro aims to launch his late father’s firework with his brother and friend, closing a chapter of his life.

Shinomiya himself is a Japanese artist known for his work in illustration and background art for anime productions, including several of Makoto Shinkai’s films. His credits include Children Who Chase Lost Voices, The Garden of Words, and your name. Outside Makoto Shinkai’s works, he has also worked on anime-related projects such as In This Corner of the World, Girls’ Last Tour, and Napping Princess. In Indonesia, Shinomiya is also known for directing the Bintang SMA Pocari Sweat advertisement.

The film is animated by Studio Outrigger and produced in collaboration with Asmik Ace and Miyu Productions. A New Dawn had its world premiere in the main competition of the 76th Berlin International Film Festival on 18 February 2026, before receiving a nationwide theatrical release in Japan through Asmik Ace on 6 March 2026.
