The word isekai has now been officially included in the online version of Kamus Besar Bahasa Indonesia (KBBI), Indonesia’s official language dictionary. On the official KBBI website, isekai is spelled i.se.kai and translated in the Indonesian language as dunia lain (“alternate world” in English) or dimensi lain (“alternate dimension” in English).

The term originates from the Japanese word “異世界”. In anime culture and fictional works, isekai is commonly used to describe stories in which the main character is transported to, trapped in, or reincarnated into a different world. These narratives often revolve around adventures in the new world, either in search of a way home or in pursuit of a new life altogether.

The isekai genre has a strong presence in Japanese pop culture, with examples including the Re:Zero series, Log Horizon, Konosuba, Overlord, and many more titles.
