The anime adaptation of The Apothecary Diaries will be continued into its third season and a film. The series’s third season is scheduled to premiere in October 2026, followed by a second cour airing in April 2027. The new theatrical film, which will be an original story written by the novel’s author, Natsu Hyuuga, is set for release in December 2026.

Alongside these announcements, a special exhibition themed around the franchise is also planned to tour several locations across Asia, including China, Hong Kong, Taipei, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, and additional major cities.

The Apothecary Diaries, known in Japanese as Kusuriya no Hitorigoto, began as a novel by Natsu Hyuuga. The story follows Maomao, a young apothecary who is forced to work as a servant in the imperial palace. Her extensive knowledge of medicines quickly draws attention, propelling her into the role of personal attendant to the emperor’s favourite consort. Yet behind her rapid career rise lies a series of mysteries awaiting discovery.

The series originally began as an online novel on the Shousetsuka ni Narou web novel website. It was later published in two different light novel editions, illustrated respectively by Megumi Matsuda and Touko Shino. The story has also been adapted into two separate manga versions: one illustrated by Nekokurage and another by Minoji Kurata. Both manga editions are available in Indonesia, with m&c! publishing Nekokurage’s version under the title The Apothecary Diaries, and Elex Media publishing Kurata’s version as The Pharmacist’s Monologue.

The first and second seasons of the anime are also available on Netflix with an Indonesian dub.
