Indonesian voice actor Asdi Suhastra, known for his work across radio, commercials, and narration, has passed away. The news was confirmed by his family and reported by his colleague Haryoko. He had been battling an illness over the past year.
Asdi Suhastra began his career in voice acting with Sanggar Prathivi, performing in popular radio dramas such as Tutur Tinular, Mahkota Mayangkara, Ibuku Malang Ibuku Tersayang, Getar2 Manusia Pilihan, Pelangi Diatas Gelagah Wangi, and Asmara di Tengah Bencana. With the rise of private television stations and dubbed foreign films in Indonesia during the 1990s, he also lent his voice to film dubbing projects, including the Mahabharata series.
However, the majority of Asdi’s career focused on narration. He provided voice work for commercials, public service announcements, and other promotional videos, often using his commanding voice to portray wise elder characters or authoritative narrators. He also ran his own online radio programme, Radio Asdisuara, where he frequently took centre stage as storyteller and character actor. At the peak of his career, he would often record four or more advertisements in a single day.
KAORI Nusantara expresses its deepest condolences on the passing of Asdi Suhastra. May God accept his deeds, forgive his sins and grant fortitude to his family. May his legacy continue to live on and be remembered for generations.
