Jakarta-based pixel artist and independent video game developer Sanditio Bayu, also known as Jitok, has officially released his retro-inspired first-person shooter Mala Petaka on Steam. Published by Hellforge Studios, the game has been available on Steam since 26 September 2025.
Heavily influenced by classic shooters such as Doom, Mala Petaka places players in the role of Petaka, a cyberpunk protagonist suffering from amnesia. To recover his memories, Petaka must journey across multiple worlds through mysterious portals. Along the way, players will face a host of enemies ranging from one-eyed aliens and troublesome drones to colossal bosses that block the path forward.
The game offers two main modes: a Story Mode that guides players through its narrative, and a Horde Mode focused on fast-paced survival against waves of enemies. Combat features an arsenal of weapons, including pistols, shotguns, and plasma rifles, each with alternate fire modes. More than 20 enemy types populate the battlefield, while power-ups such as Time Freeze, Rampage, and God Mode provide dynamic twists during gameplay.
Mala Petaka is structured into four chapters, each containing five missions. Every mission challenges players to battle through alien threats before finding the exit door to progress further. Difficulty settings range from Easy and Medium to Hard, with more extreme modes such as Malapetaka (Instakill Mode) and Mahadewa (God Mode) offering punishing challenges for experienced players.
