A major change has taken place at Indonesian television broadcaster RCTI, as the long-running anime series Doraemon has officially concluded its broadcast on the channel. After more than three decades as one of RCTI’s flagship programmes, the series has ceased airing as of 2025.
Based on the official broadcast schedule published on the RCTI+ website, Doraemon no longer appeared in the station’s programming lineup since 29 December 2025. It’s also not included in its traditional Sunday morning slot on 4 January 2026. For many years, the series had been closely associated with Sunday morning broadcasts, and in recent years it had also aired on a daily basis. The absence of Doraemon from the schedule for an entire week marks the first time the series has been completely removed from RCTI’s programming.
Before the end of its television run, a sign of a shift had already shown in how RCTI handled the broadcast. In recent years, the broadcaster had stopped airing the latest Doraemon theatrical films. Several newer entries instead are being shown on another Indonesian TV station, Trans TV. With this development, both the television series and its theatrical films are no longer broadcast on RCTI.
Adapted from the manga series by Fujiko F. Fujio, Doraemon tells the story of a robotic cat from the future who helps a trouble-prone boy named Nobita using a variety of futuristic gadgets. The anime is produced by Shin-Ei Animation Co., Ltd., with distribution in Japan handled by Toho Co., Ltd.
In Indonesia, Doraemon anime is licensed by ADK Indonesia (formerly PT Perdana IMMG Indonesia) and Animation International Indonesia. The manga has been published in Indonesia by Elex Media Komputindo since the early 1990s, coinciding with the wider introduction of Japanese manga to the Indonesian market. The anime series began airing in Indonesia around the same period on RCTI, with broadcast rights at the time held by PT Hikmad & Chusen.
Despite the conclusion of Doraemon’s 35-year presence on RCTI, the future of the anime’s broadcast in Indonesia remains unclear. However, several voice actors associated with the series have previously confirmed that dubbing work has been completed for newer episodes.
