Due to the misuse of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology, the captain of the Indonesian idol group JKT48, Freya, has decided to report the person who manipulated her photo using AI technology to the police. The report was submitted on 5 February 2026 to the South Jakarta Metro Police.

According to Jawapos, the legal action was triggered after Freya and the JKT48 Operation Team found numerous instances of digital content that uses Freya’s face in unethical ways. An internal investigation revealed that the edited images had been circulating continuously from 2022 until early 2025.

As part of the reporting process, Freya submitted several pieces of crucial evidence to investigators, including documentation of the accounts responsible for spreading the content and screenshots of the edited images.

“Yes, I filed an official report regarding hoax pornographic content created through the misuse of AI. The evidence I submitted includes screenshots of the perpetrators’ accounts along with the indecent edited images that used my face and those of several fellow members,” Freya explained.

Before bringing the matter to the police, the JKT48 Operation Team had attempted a persuasive approach by issuing warnings to the accounts that spread the content. However, as the calls to remove the material were ignored, they supported Freya’s decision to report the case to the police.

“For me, the situation has become increasingly disturbing. More (unethical) creators also appeared. So I agreed with management’s advice to pursue legal action,” she added.

Legal Process

According to Kompas.com, the police had sent an invitation for clarification with Freya on Thursday, 12 March 2026. Murodih, Head of Public Relations at the South Jakarta Metro Police, confirmed that the invitation was made in order to investigate the chronology of the AI misuse, particularly in relation to an AI tool, Grok.

“The clarification invitation has been delivered to the reporting party. The session is scheduled for Thursday, 12 March 2026,” Murodih said on Wednesday (11/3).

Although the report was submitted personally by Freya, she hinted that other JKT48 members may follow suit. Several members who reportedly experienced similar incidents are preparing to provide official statements to the authorities. This collective action aims to provide stronger protection for all JKT48 talents against cybercrime in the future.

Freya’s Message to Internet Users

Through this legal move, Freya hopes to send a strong message to anonymous individuals who feel safe hiding behind their screens. She emphasised that the psychological impact and harm caused by such content are very real for the victims.

“I just want to say: stop. What you think is just a joke is actually very harmful and painful for the victims. Don’t feel safe just because you are hiding behind an anonymous account.”

The misuse of AI technology for exploitative purposes may carry severe legal penalties under Indonesia’s Electronic Information and Transactions Law (ITE Law). The JKT48 Operation Team have committed to overseeing the legal process until it concludes, in order to maintain the integrity and safety of all their members.

JKT48 fans have also continued to voice their support across social media. They have called for a more ethical online environment free from digital harassment.

JKT48 is a sister group of the Japanese idol group AKB48. Formed in 2011, JKT48 is based at the FX Sudirman Theatre, South Jakarta. The group has previously released Indonesian versions of songs from 48 Family idol groups, as well as some original songs.
